Company

At Pepperlane, we’re building a platform to help moms launch and grow successful service businesses.

We provide a supportive community, online and in-person events, and step-by-step training to help moms build independent businesses that fit their lives, and help them get their businesses online via our member marketplace.

Our vision is to offer a complete platform to run a successful micro-business: step-by-step guides to getting started in high-demand industries, simple, automatic lead management, and tools that provide personalized recommendations about where and how members can market their businesses to their network, Pepperlane’s audience and beyond.

Team

We’re a small team of tech industry veterans from high-growth companies with high valuations and/or successful exits to IPO or acquisition. Most of us are also parents, and all of us have lives and interests outside of work. (Read more about our team and how we got started.)

We’re working hard to create a path to success for entrepreneurial moms because we believe in both the enormity of the mission and the untapped business opportunity.

About the Principal Engineer role

We’re looking for an experienced full stack web developer to work with us to extend our existing Rails app to make our vision a reality. This is a rare opportunity to join a well-funded early stage startup as a lead developer and grow with the company, with guidance from experienced technical advisers. The sky’s the limit!

  • Conduct code reviews

QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent experience.

  • Deep understanding of web application architecture, object-oriented design, and computer science principles.

  • Demonstrated mastery in at least one programming language.

  • Communicate ideas clearly, and write intelligently.

  • Willing to work onsite at our Somerville, MA office at least 3 days per week. (Only local candidates will be considered for this position)

BENEFITS

  • Competitive salary + equity

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT PHILOSOPHY

Customer needs come first
We find creative solutions and sweat the details to create a great experience for our customers.

We’re scrappy, not sloppy
We might build lightweight prototypes to validate ideas quickly, but we build lasting solutions once we’ve validated that we’re heading in the right direction.

We don’t reinvent the wheel
We focus on building the features that will differentiate us and integrate with point solutions for the rest.

We move fast, but we don’t break stuff.
That’s why we use GitHub, Travis and Heroku to create a lightweight build-test-release process that allows us to deploy with ease to our staging environment and with confidence to production.

How to apply

Member Success Rep

Pepperlane is on a mission to create a better world for mothers by empowering them to embrace their skills and passions, turn those into small businesses, and do it all on a schedule they decide. We're helping women break the outdated rule that says mothers can't do what they love AND have time for their families, or that flexible employment is limited to only a few skill sets.

Where We’re Going:

We've touched more than 500 communities, helping moms (and mom supporters!) sell more than 50 different types of services to their neighbors, and we're just getting started. We want to partner with you to play a trusted, critical role to our community of members. We need your unique experience to help our leaders reach millions of moms all across the world.

You will:

  • Be passionate about our members’ success and be driven to ensure our members have a delightful experience.

  • Maintain a positive, empathetic and professional attitude toward members at all times.

  • Respond promptly and thoughtfully to members’ questions.

  • Become an expert in Pepperlane’s offerings and educate members on the use and benefits of our products.

  • Be a member advocate at your core, and capture valuable feedback on how the team can better serve our community.

  • Positively contribute to the Pepperlane team culture

  • Collaborate cross-functionally on projects and tasks as needed- no project is too big or too small.

You are:

  • Thrilled to expand our reach to more moms (and mom supporters) who would benefit from working more on their own terms.

  • A self-starter who takes initiative to see things through to completion. If it needs doing, you make it happen.

  • Eager to take on challenges. When you don’t know something, you embrace the chance to grow and get better.

  • Known for going out of your way to help people.

  • Patient, an active listener, and naturally empathetic.

  • Excellent at distilling a wide variety of complex information into its simplest forms.

You have:

  • 3+ years of support experience, previous tech startup experience preferred

  • Experience with MS Office, Google Office, and a wide-range of cloud based programs.

  • A sense of humor, integrity, and deep empathy for others.

  • Grace under pressure and comfort with ambiguity.

To Apply:

  • Please send your cover letter and resume to jobs@pepperlane.co

Pepperlane does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, age, height, weight, veteran status, military obligations, or marital status.

Every day our team is honored to work with moms and mom supporters from all over the U.S., and we aim to build a team that reflects the diversity of our customers. Each team member of Pepperlane brings their own perspectives, work experiences, lifestyles, and cultures with them, and we believe that a more diverse team creates more innovative products, provides a better service to our members, and helps us all grow and learn as individuals.
